What the other side actually sees
Your investor view is the only part of this product a buyer's lawyer ever forms an opinion about. It is one page, it loads a document without a frame around it, and it shows your structure in the same order you built it.
-
Contents first, document second
Dark rail on the left with the folder tree exactly as you built it, nested where you nested it, counts included. The document opens on the right. Nobody has to hunt for an index because the index is the navigation.
Watch A folder only appears if a document they are allowed to see sits inside it. Nothing is revealed about what you are holding back.
-
Page by page, with a position you can see
Prev and Next either side of the page number, zoom on the right. It behaves like a PDF viewer because that is what the other side expects, and anything fancier costs you reading time.
Do this Say the page number out loud on a call: page 14 of the debtor ageing. It is the fastest way to end a confused conversation.
-
Where you are, in the path
The toolbar carries the folder path above the document title. That line is why selecting a document deep in a tree does not strand you, and why a visitor who was sent straight to one file can still find the rest of the room.
Watch Open a document from a collapsed folder and the folder reopens itself. Little thing, saves a click you would otherwise blame on the software.
-
Ask a question of the room
Every gated view leaves a question function available. Anything asked is logged against the room and the visitor, which is why the useful rooms are not the ones with the most views but the ones with the sharpest questions.
Do this Answer in the room, not by email. A written answer in the room is visible to the rest of the process, which stops the same question arriving three times from three advisers.
-
Send a single document instead
For everything that is not a data room: one deck, one accounts pack, one signature page. Quick Share gives a trackable link over one PDF with the same view recording and none of the room around it.
Watch A Quick Share link is not a substitute for a room. It has one document and no structure, and an investor who wants the rest will know that.
- □ The viewer opens on the document a first-time visitor should read
- □ Every folder name reads as well to an outsider as it does to you
- □ The longest document in the room is under about 60 pages, or split
- □ You have opened the room on a phone, once
